After ‘Don’t Say’ by Elizabeth Brennan
We were cowards because we could’ve had it all
We could’ve raised a child but we let it all go
We were skin to skin but never one
We held it all in and now the talking’s done
Don’t say, ‘It’s been so long’, when you let me go
Don’t say you wanted me when you were the one who let go
Don’t ask me how I’ve been when you never said, ‘Stay’
Don’t speak to me unless it’s all the things you couldn’t say
We were liars because we saved face
We could’ve been so good but it all went to waste
And when I see you now you’re still everything
We’re holding it all in when I want to scream
Don’t say, ‘It’s been so long’, when you let me go
Don’t say you wanted me when you were the one who let go
Don’t ask me how I’ve been when you never said, ‘Stay’
Don’t speak to me unless it’s all the things you couldn’t say
If I could take it all back, suck the poison out of our past
I would, a thousand times for you
If I could mend the break, set our bones back in to place
I would, I would, a thousand times for you
For you
Don’t say, ‘It’s been so long’, when you let me go
Don’t say you wanted me when you were the one who let go
Don’t ask me how I’ve been when you never said, ‘Stay’
Don’t speak to me unless it’s all the things you couldn’t say
