After ‘Gone Bird’ by Natesha Somasundaram
Home, where the start is
The beginning, not the destination
We laid out roots in
But never grew them
We’d rather try escaping
Growing, unfurling
Story after story watered by their learning
Shaping, hoping for more, for more
I have tried to stay
And I have tried to lead the way but
If you love me, you love me
You’ll let me go
And I have held my tongue
But I want to be someone so
If you love me, you love me
You’ll let me go
You’ll let me go
Like blue against the night sky
You don’t ask why, you just follow
Knots of obligation, tangled patience, you just swallow
Growing, unfurling
Story after story watered by their learning
Shaping, hoping for more
For more
I have tried to stay
And I have tried to lead the way but
If you love me, you love me
You’ll let me go
And I have held my tongue
But I want to be someone so
If you love me, you love me
You’ll let me go
You’ll let me go
Home, where the start is
The beginning not the destination
We laid our roots in but never grew them
I have tried to stay
And I have tried to lead the way but
If you love me, you love me
You’ll let me go
And I have held my tongue
But I want to be someone so
If you love me, you love me
You’ll let me go
You’ll let me go
