Make Me A Melody – Ilana Charnelle

From the collaborative live art project, Tensions: Curated Work (2015)

After ‘Q & A’ by Chris Edwards

Two headlights framing our moment

Not who we wanted, our night’s not done yet

I can feel you looking for me, moving toward me

Wanting to hold me

We’re strangers now

But that’s not how it has to stay

So make me a melody

One that you can’t forget

One that’ll haunt you like a memory

Years after you heard it

You’re sharing yourself like a flower opening

Two cold hands holding, with so little warning

I can feel it getting clearer like a mirror

As you draw nearer

We’re strangers now

But that’s not how it has to stay

So make me a melody

One that you can’t forget

One that’ll haunt you like a memory

Years after you heard it

Don’t look at me like that, in the rain on the way home

Don’t look at me like that

Like you already know

Two headlights framing our moment

We’d better get going

Night’s over, but we’re not done yet
